Our Board

The GISA is a school association. The purpose of the association is the establishment and maintenance of a general school including a kindergarten and a preschool. The school board is at the same time the board of directors of the association and bears the legal responsibility for the association.

It consists of five voting members, who are elected for two years each. At the end of each annual general meeting, half of the board members resign or stand for re-election.

The board of the association appoints from among its members the president and his/her deputy, the secretary and the treasurer.

The Board members work closely with the school management and the school administration - the school management, a teachers' and a parents' representative, as well as the administrative management participate in the respective Board meetings

Among others, the board members of the school association perform the following assignments:

• The board members of the school association order all matters of the association, as far as they are not reserved for the resolution by the general meeting. It executes the resolutions of the general meeting.
• In detail, the School Association Board performs the following tasks:

1. election, obligation and dismissal of the headmaster; 
2. obligation and dismissal of teachers and employees of the school [...].
3. passing resolutions on the objectives and structure of the school [...].
4. the enactment of the school rules introduced by the headmaster;
5. to discuss and draw up the budget estimate for the new financial year, taking into account the conditions for the granting of official German funding; Provision of the necessary funds for the school, monitoring compliance with the budget. […]
6. judicial and extrajudicial representation of the school association, issuing and accepting legal declarations for the school association [...].
7. decision on applications for reduction of school fees; 
8. decision on admission and exclusion of members of the association;
9. convening the general meeting and drawing up the agenda; 

10. decision on disciplinary measures, as far as this is provided for in the school regulations.

FLASHLIGHTS FROM THE BOARD MEETING OF 13.01.2020

Report of Head of Board

• The new head of administration Michael Kojoe Tackie will start his work with us on February 3^rd, 2020.

Report of the headmaster

• Update of the head of schools meeting in Berlin.
• A new head of Kindergarten has been found. She will be coming to Accra from March 9. -13^th 2020 for the handing over.

Sarah Heinlin would like to hand over the chairmanship to a current board member from May 2020.

Appendix AGM

• School strategy, working groups have been set up; first meeting is before the Christmas holidays; The aim is to bring implementing measures to a decision by March.
• The working group for class 5 /6 still needs volunteers.
  
  ii) Proposed resolution Amendment to the Articles of Association for an external member of the Executive Board.
• 2 submitted by the chairperson will be forwarded to the AA in an adapted version for signature (vote 4:0 accepted by the board).
• Report of the Headmaster
   i)The school is looking for new teachers. It is difficult to find suitable teachers at the momemt.
• The questionnaires for the holidays and afternoon supervision have been completed. A few parents showed interest. From summer next year, holiday aktivities and programme will be offered.
• 3 people will be interviewed this week for the position of the management of administration.
